“We deal with an awful lot of good people with clean records who have made mistakes,” he said, explaining that many are students who would garner sympathy if their cases were brought before a jury.
It takes finesse to work with these people, coming up with plea agreements and solutions that provide justice without a creating a huge backlog of jury trials, he said.
“I’ve managed the job for the past 15 years; I know how it works,” he said. “I love what I do. I’m proud of the way that office is run and the changes that have been made.”
